Rondônia is organised along BR-364: Porto Velho, the capital, on the Madeira river and its bridge, Ji-Paraná, Cacoal and Vilhena in the agricultural and cattle south, and the continuation towards Acre on one side and Mato Grosso on the other; Guajará-Mirim faces Bolivia on the Mamoré river. Infractions are applied by DETRAN-RO in the registry, by the municipal bodies in Porto Velho and Ji-Paraná, by the military police on state roads and by the Federal Highway Police on BR-364 and BR-425.

Context and authorities

Infractions are governed by the Brazilian Traffic Code: each has a fixed value, a seriousness and a number of points recorded on the licence of the identified driver, and they are notified in two stages, the citation and the penalty, with periods for the prior defence and the appeal. The state DETRAN, municipalities with municipalised traffic and the Federal Highway Police apply them; SENATRAN coordinates the national systems.

DETRAN-RO records each infraction against the plate and the RENAVAM, notifies the owner and receives the prior defence and the appeals; Porto Velho, Ji-Paraná and Vilhena have their own municipal bodies with cameras, and DER-RO enforces the state roads. The Federal Highway Police acts on BR-364 with weight and speed checks; with an overdue fine the annual licensing is not issued, and infractions on Bolivian vehicles are collected on the spot.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In Rondônia a plate lookup walks the integrated sources of the Brazil fines API and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it, as the source publishes it:

  • Issuing body and infraction notice number exactly as the source publishes them.
  • Date, location and infraction code under the traffic code.
  • Value, status (citation, penalty, paid) and points when the source reports them.
  • Coverage per source and a partial-result flag when any failed to answer.

How to check a plate in Rondônia

A plate is checked by hand at the DETRAN-RO portal and, for infractions from other bodies, in SENATRAN’s national channels. The API does the same round at scale and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it, so verification becomes part of the fleet process rather than a spreadsheet.

What to watch if you run a fleet in Rondônia

A grain or cattle fleet travelling BR-364 from Vilhena to Porto Velho and on to the river ports piles up PRF weight and camera infractions on trucks without a fixed driver; with the monthly plate lookup and the result filed per body, the company names the driver within the citation period.

For a carrier crossing into Bolivia at Guajará-Mirim, the plate lookup before licensing separates Brazilian infractions from Bolivian ones, which follow another circuit.

How to integrate

The integration starts with one POST per vehicle, with the jurisdiction as an optional filter. Since sources answer at their own pace, the API accepts the job and delivers the result by status or webhook; store the idempotency key before sending, as the asynchronous APIs guide describes. The API page details limits and fields.

Limits and considerations

  • Infractions on federal highways are recorded by the Federal Highway Police and are checked in the national channels, not at the state DETRAN.
  • Values are those of the traffic code current at the time of payment, with the applicable discount or surcharge; the final amount is set by the body.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
  • The API neither pays fines nor files defences; it delivers information to decide.
