Roraima is Brazil’s least populous and northernmost state: Boa Vista, the planned capital, concentrates most of the population, BR-174 joins it with Manaus to the south and with Pacaraima and the Venezuelan border to the north, and BR-401 heads to Bonfim and Guyana. Savannah agribusiness and border trade move trucks on a single trunk highway. Infractions are applied by DETRAN-RR in the registry, by Boa Vista’s SMTran in the capital, by the military police on state roads and by the Federal Highway Police on BR-174 and BR-401.

Context and authorities

The framework is the Brazilian Traffic Code, which classifies infractions as minor, medium, serious and very serious with fixed-value fines and points on the driver’s licence; the state DETRAN, the municipal traffic bodies and the Federal Highway Police on federal highways apply them, and SENATRAN integrates the national registries. An unpaid fine blocks the annual licensing and the transfer of the vehicle.

DETRAN-RR records each infraction against the plate and the RENAVAM, notifies the owner and receives the prior defence and the appeals; SMTran enforces Boa Vista with cameras on the avenues and agents, and the state’s other cities have limited traffic. The Federal Highway Police acts on BR-174 with documentation and speed checks towards the border; with an overdue fine the annual licensing is not issued, and infractions on Venezuelan vehicles are collected on the spot.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In Roraima a plate lookup walks the integrated sources of the Brazil fines API and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it, as the source publishes it:

  • The body that recorded the infraction and its number, unnormalised.
  • The date and reason, with the location if the source reports it.
  • The value and status current at the source.
  • Which sources answered and which did not, on every lookup.

How to check a plate in Roraima

Manual verification starts at the DETRAN-RR portal, with plate and RENAVAM, and is completed in SENATRAN’s national app for infractions from other states and from federal highways. That round, repeated for every unit, is what the API replaces: one lookup per plate across the integrated sources, with the result per source.

What to watch if you run a fleet in Roraima

A carrier running BR-174 up and down between Manaus and Boa Vista with trucks rotating between drivers piles up PRF infractions in two states, and the notice reaches the base weeks later; with the monthly plate lookup and the result filed per body, the company names the driver within the citation period.

For a Boa Vista company with units crossing to Pacaraima and Venezuela, the plate lookup before licensing separates Brazilian infractions from those across the border, which follow another circuit.

How to integrate

The integration starts with one POST per vehicle, with the jurisdiction as an optional filter. Since sources answer at their own pace, the API accepts the job and delivers the result by status or webhook; store the idempotency key before sending, as the asynchronous APIs guide describes. The API page details limits and fields.

Limits and considerations

  • Infractions on federal highways are recorded by the Federal Highway Police and are checked in the national channels, not at the state DETRAN.
  • Values are those of the traffic code current at the time of payment, with the applicable discount or surcharge; the final amount is set by the body.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
  • The API neither pays fines nor files defences; it delivers information to decide.
