Villa La Angostura is a tourist town in the Neuquén Andes crossed by National Route 40, which continues towards Bariloche, and connected to Chile by Route 231 and the Cardenal Samoré pass: in season, rental cars, excursion vans and international trucks cross its urban stretch, where the municipal speed camera issues most fines. Municipal fines are issued by the town; route fines outside the town limits are provincial or national.

Context and authority

Amounts and deadlines follow the National Traffic Law 24.449 and Neuquén’s adhesion: fixed units, a two-year limitation for minor offences and five for serious ones, a defence before the authority that issued the fine. This article covers municipal fines; the provincial circuit is in the Neuquén article.

The municipal misdemeanour court rules on fines issued within the town limits: almost all for speeding on the urban stretch of Route 40, with a fixed speed camera working all year, and some for parking and manoeuvres downtown and at the approaches to the lake piers. A defence is filed with the court within the period set by the notice.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

A plate lookup in Villa La Angostura walks the Villa La Angostura municipal misdemeanour court together with the integrated provincial sources of Neuquén, and returns each fine with the authority that issued it:

  • Authority and fine number exactly as each court publishes them.
  • Date, location when reported and description of the infraction.
  • Amount, status and payment conditions published by that court.
  • Downloadable payment slip when one exists.
  • Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

Lookups with a Villa La Angostura fine did not reach the publication floor of the data methodology, so we do not publish that share; the sample of fines, between five hundred and one thousand, is large for a town of its size, because the plates looked up belong to visitors from all over the country. Almost nine out of ten fines are for speeding: the Route 40 camera.

The median amount band is ARS 100,000 – ARS 250,000 and the median age of open fines is 220 days.

100% of the fines offered voluntary payment at lookup time: every one observed. Whoever looks up in time pays with a discount; whoever finds out when selling the car does not.

The fleet cohort, 50 accounts with twenty or more plates and 2,040 plates in total, had fewer than fifty lookups with a Villa La Angostura fine, the floor the data methodology requires to publish a share; the figure exists, but it is not published below that threshold.

For a rent-a-car from Bariloche or Neuquén whose cars cross the urban stretch on every Seven Lakes excursion, a plate lookup at the return of each rental, with the result stored, charges the fine to the customer who was driving and pays with a discount; without that lookup, the fine shows up months later on the company’s plate, with no discount left.

How to integrate

A lookup is a POST with the plate and, optionally, the jurisdictions to include; the initial response accepts the job and the result arrives by status lookup or webhook, because official sources answer in seconds or minutes. The asynchronous APIs guide explains how to retry without duplicating work and the API page details access.

  "jurisdictions": [

For a fleet, the lookup is scheduled as a monthly batch and per event (onboarding, return, contract close); storing the per-source result next to the plate settles traceability before any dispute.

Limits and considerations

  • Fines on Route 40 outside the town limits and on the corridor to the Samoré pass are provincial or national, not municipal; the response names the authority of each.
  • Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
  • Proprietary data comes from user lookups, not from a registry: the share of fines is skewed towards suspect plates.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
