In Neuquén Province, infractions are ruled on by each locality’s municipal misdemeanour court, from the capital and Plottier to Villa La Angostura, while those on national and provincial routes are handled through the provincial channel and the national infraction system. Geography sets the pattern: the corridor towards the Andes and the lakes concentrates speed checkpoints on vehicles that, for the most part, are not local.

Context and authority

Each Neuquén municipality defines its own lookup and payment channels, and early-payment discount conditions vary between courts; institutional information is on the Neuquén Government portal. Defences are filed within five business days of notification.

Limitation periods follow the National Traffic Law 24.449: two years for minor offences and five for serious ones. For a company based in the capital or in the Vaca Muerta area, the greatest exposure is not in the city but on the routes to the south and west, where automated checks are constant.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

The API queries the integrated Neuquén sources, the municipal misdemeanour courts and those of Villa La Angostura and Picún Leufú, and returns each fine with the authority that issued it:

  • Authority and fine number exactly as each court publishes them.
  • Date, location when reported and description of the infraction.
  • Amount, status and payment conditions published by that court.
  • Downloadable payment slip when one exists.
  • Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

1% of plate lookups in the period found at least one fine in Neuquén: the share is low because most lookups come from other provinces, but the internal split is telling. More than half of the observed fines were issued by Villa La Angostura; the municipal courts elsewhere in the province and Picún Leufú account for the rest.

Almost two thirds of the fines are for speeding, with a median amount band of ARS 100,000 – ARS 250,000. 83% of the fines offered voluntary payment and the median age without a recorded resolution is 220 days.

December, April and March are the months with the most fines: summer season on the lakes and Easter week.

Case study: fleets that look up plates in Neuquén

Sample: 1.000–5.000 fine records, 50.000+ lookups · See the data methodology

The fleet cohort, 50 accounts with twenty or more plates and 2,040 plates in total, had few lookups with a Neuquén fine: below the floor of fifty observations required by the data methodology, so we do not publish that share.

The case that does describe the province is that of service companies moving pickups between the capital, the oil fields and the Andes: the vehicle passes through Villa La Angostura once a year, on holiday or on a transfer, and the fine reaches a court the company did not know existed long afterwards. Looking up the plate at the end of each assignment, with the authority identified in the response, keeps a single route fine from becoming paperwork in another city.

How to integrate

The lookup is a POST with the plate; the API accepts the job immediately and the result arrives by status or webhook with the fines from each court queried.

With small municipal sources, tolerate partial responses and retry with the same idempotency key, as the asynchronous APIs guide explains. The API page details access.

Limits and considerations

  • Only integrated Neuquén courts are queried; other municipalities remain out of coverage.
  • Small courts publish with delays and, at times, interruptions; a source that does not respond is reported as pending.
  • Payment conditions belong to each court and can change without notice.
  • Our data comes from user lookups and does not describe the Neuquén vehicle fleet.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences.
