Santiago del Estero is a crossroads towards the north: National Route 9 between Córdoba and Tucumán, Route 34 towards Salta and Route 64 towards Catamarca cross the province with agricultural cargo and hot-springs tourism heading to Termas de Río Hondo, where speed checks are constant in season. Urban infractions are ruled on by municipal misdemeanour courts, led by the capital and La Banda; route infractions depend on the provincial road-safety authority.

Context and authorities

As in the rest of the country, the National Traffic Law 24.449 applies: fines are set in fixed units and lapse after two years if minor and five if serious. For local procedures and rules, the starting point is the Santiago del Estero Government portal.

The capital and La Banda rule on their urban fines in municipal misdemeanour courts, with camera fines on the avenues and on the bridge that joins them; Termas de Río Hondo has its own court and reinforces checks in the winter hot-springs season, when the city’s population multiplies. On Routes 9, 34 and 64 fines are issued by the provincial road-safety authority, with checks at the entrances to towns. A defence is filed with the authority that issued the fine.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In Santiago del Estero the API currently queries the Termas de Río Hondo municipal misdemeanour court and returns each fine with the authority that issued it:

  • The authority that issued the fine and its number, unnormalised.
  • The date and description of the infraction, with the location if the court reports it.
  • The amount and status current at the source, with the payment conditions it publishes.
  • The link to the payment slip when the authority offers one.
  • Which sources answered and which did not, to tell a complete result from a partial one.

How to check a plate in Santiago del Estero

To check a plate by hand, the ANSV national lookup lists the fines loaded by participating authorities and the Santiago del Estero Government portal points to each municipal court. The API does the same at scale: it walks the integrated authorities by plate and returns the fines with their origin, so verification becomes part of the process rather than a spreadsheet.

What to watch if you run a fleet in Santiago del Estero

An agricultural cargo truck climbing Route 34 towards Salta or Route 9 towards Tucumán crosses urban stretches with speed cameras and receives the fine weeks later at the owner’s address; checking the plate at the close of each long trip assigns the fine to the driver while the route sheet still exists.

In Termas de Río Hondo the winter season concentrates tourist and rental vehicles and checks at the entrances; a rent-a-car or a passenger transport company that checks the plate at the end of each service, with the per-source result stored, charges the fine to the right party instead of discovering it when renewing the technical inspection.

How to integrate

The integration starts with one POST per plate, with the jurisdiction as an optional filter. Since courts answer at their own pace, the API accepts the job and delivers the result by status or webhook; store the idempotency key before sending, as the asynchronous APIs guide describes. The API page details access.

Limits and considerations

  • Hot-springs-season fines concentrate in a few months and courts publish them with delay; the fine date takes precedence over the lookup date.
  • Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
