In Chaco Province, the Provincial Traffic Directorate has jurisdiction over routes and motorways, and municipal misdemeanour courts, led by Resistencia and Presidencia Roque Sáenz Peña, handle urban infractions. The routes linking Resistencia with Santiago del Estero, Salta and Formosa concentrate automated speed enforcement on mostly cargo traffic: agro-industry and forestry trucks crossing the province end to end.

Context and authority

Institutional information is on the Chaco Government portal; whether a single payment portal exists is verified there and on each municipality’s site. Defences are filed within five business days of notification and voluntary-payment conditions vary by authority.

Limitation periods follow the National Traffic Law 24.449: two years for minor offences and five for serious ones. Since almost every fine originates from a route speed camera, the infraction date is precise and the voluntary-payment window predictable: the problem is not the information but reaching it before the deadline.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

The API queries the Chaco provincial source and the Sáenz Peña misdemeanour court by plate, and returns each fine with the detail a cargo operation needs to charge it to a trip:

  • Authority, fine number and exact infraction date.
  • Offence description and reported amount, in pesos or fixed units depending on the source.
  • Status, due date and voluntary-payment availability.
  • Downloadable payment slip when the source publishes one.
  • Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

Fewer than one in a hundred plate lookups in the period found a Chaco fine, a share below the minimum we publish; most people who look up plates do not drive through the province. What does describe Chaco is the composition: practically every observed fine is for speeding, without the mix of parking and documentation offences that appears in other provinces.

95% of the fines offered voluntary payment at lookup time, the highest share among the provinces analysed, with a median amount band of ARS 100,000 – ARS 250,000. The median age of fines without a recorded resolution is 240 days: almost every fine has a discount available, and almost every one is discovered after it has expired.

January, March and October are the months with the most fines in the sample.

Case study: fleets that look up plates in Chaco

The fleet cohort, 50 accounts with twenty or more plates and 2,040 plates in total, had fewer than fifty lookups with a Chaco fine, the floor the data methodology sets to publish a share.

The case that describes the province is an agro-industrial company with its own trucks crossing Chaco at harvest time: every speeding fine arrives with voluntary payment available, but the back office received it by post weeks later, when the discount no longer applied. Integrating the lookup into each trip settlement, with the voluntary-payment due date in the response, makes it possible to pay within the window or pass the fine to the driver with the exact date and place.

How to integrate

The lookup is a POST with the plate; the API accepts the job immediately and the result arrives by status or webhook with each fine, its due date and its authority.

When the discount window is short, fire the lookup as soon as the trip ends rather than waiting for month-end; the asynchronous APIs guide explains how to receive the result by webhook without duplicating work. The API page details access.

Limits and considerations

  • Municipal coverage is currently limited to Sáenz Peña; Resistencia and the other courts are added as they are integrated.
  • Speed cameras publish with variable delay; a recent lookup does not replace a fresh one before closing a trip.
  • A source that does not respond is reported as pending, not as an absence of fines.
  • Our data comes from user lookups and does not describe the Chaco vehicle fleet.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences.
