In Misiones, urban infractions are ruled on by each locality’s municipal misdemeanour court, with Posadas, Oberá and Eldorado the most active, while fines on national and provincial routes enter the circuit of the national infraction administration system (SINAI). It is a long border province: cargo from the forestry and yerba mate industries and tourism heading to Iguazú travel routes with scattered speed checkpoints.

Context and authority

Posadas offers online lookups and payment of its fines; other municipalities have their own systems or in-person service, and voluntary-payment conditions are checked at each court. Provincial institutional information is on the Misiones Government portal. Defences are filed within five business days of notification.

Limitation periods follow the National Traffic Law 24.449: two years for minor offences and five for serious ones. The dispersion of authorities makes many fines travel slowly: they are issued on a route, ruled on in a municipality and discovered once the vehicle has already changed hands.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

The API queries the Misiones provincial source and the Posadas misdemeanour court by plate, and returns each fine with the detail an operation that buys, sells or transfers vehicles needs:

  • Authority and fine number, without altering the court’s original format.
  • Infraction date and description, to know whether it happened before or after a change of owner.
  • Reported amount, status and voluntary payment when the source publishes them.
  • Downloadable payment slip when one exists.
  • Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

3% of plate lookups in the period found at least one Misiones fine. The median age of fines without a recorded resolution is 260 days, the highest among the provinces with enough data: the fines exist, but nobody looks at them in time.

Four out of five observed fines are for speeding, with a median amount band of ARS 250,000 – ARS 500,000; 72% of the fines offered voluntary payment at lookup time.

October and September concentrate more fines than the rest of the year, with a third peak in January.

In the fleet cohort, 50 accounts with twenty or more plates and 2,040 plates in total, 2% of the lookups found at least one Misiones fine.

The characteristic case is a regional distributor that renews its pickups every few years and sells them to used-car dealers: route fines surfaced at transfer time, already months old, and were deducted from the sale price. With the lookup integrated into the renewal plan, each unit is checked when its sale is decided and again on transfer day, and the fine is paid or passed on to the responsible driver before the price is negotiated.

How to integrate

The lookup is a POST with the plate; acceptance is immediate and the result arrives by status or webhook. Each fine carries its date, which makes it possible to separate those before and after a transfer.

Before charging a fine to a driver or a buyer, the guide on vehicle lookup quality explains how to handle dates and partial results. The API page details access.

Limits and considerations

  • Municipal coverage is currently limited to Posadas; the other misdemeanour courts are added as they are integrated.
  • Route fines can appear at the source with delay; a recent lookup does not replace a fresh one before a transfer.
  • A source that does not respond is reported as pending, not as an absence of fines.
  • Our data comes from user lookups and does not describe the Misiones vehicle fleet.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences.
