Jujuy combines Quebrada de Humahuaca tourism, the lithium mining corridor in the Puna and cargo traffic towards Chile through the Jama pass and towards Bolivia through La Quiaca, all along National Routes 9 and 52. Urban infractions are ruled on by municipal misdemeanour courts, with San Salvador de Jujuy the most active; route infractions depend on the provincial road-safety authority.

Context and authorities

The province adheres to the National Traffic Law 24.449, so amounts are expressed in fixed units and the limitation period is two years for minor offences and five for serious ones. The Jujuy Government portal publishes institutional information.

San Salvador de Jujuy rules on its fines at the municipal misdemeanour court, with camera fines at the entrances and on the downtown avenues; Palpalá, Perico, Humahuaca, Tilcara and the Quebrada municipalities have their own courts, with checks that intensify at Carnival and Easter. On Route 9 and on Route 52 towards Jama, fines are issued by the provincial road-safety authority, with Gendarmería checks along the international corridor. A defence is filed with the authority that issued the fine.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

The sources integrated today in Jujuy are the San Salvador de Jujuy municipal misdemeanour court and the Humahuaca misdemeanour court; the API walks them by plate and returns each fine with the authority that issued it:

  • The authority that issued the fine and its number, unnormalised.
  • The date and description of the infraction, with the location if the court reports it.
  • The amount and status current at the source, with the payment conditions it publishes.
  • The link to the payment slip when the authority offers one.
  • Which sources answered and which did not, to tell a complete result from a partial one.

How to check a plate in Jujuy

Manual verification starts with the ANSV national lookup and continues on the Jujuy Government portal and at the municipal courts. That round, repeated for every plate, is what the API replaces: one lookup per plate across the integrated authorities, with the result split by source so you know what was verified and what was not.

What to watch if you run a fleet in Jujuy

An international cargo truck that climbs Route 9, crosses San Salvador and continues along Route 52 to Jama can receive fines from three authorities in a single trip, and each one publishes at its own pace; the plate lookup is worth repeating thirty and sixty days later, storing the per-source result to know which one answered.

Lithium-corridor pickups and Quebrada rental vehicles concentrate their fines in high season, when municipalities reinforce checks: a company that checks the plate at the close of each rotation or rental, with the result stored, assigns the fine to whoever was driving instead of absorbing it when renewing the technical inspection.

How to integrate

A lookup is a POST with the plate and, optionally, the jurisdictions to include; the initial response accepts the job and the result arrives by status lookup or webhook, because official sources answer in seconds or minutes. The asynchronous APIs guide explains how to retry without duplicating work and the API page details access.

Limits and considerations

  • The small Quebrada authorities publish with delay; the fine date takes precedence over the lookup date.
  • Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
