Veracruz is the Gulf’s most important container port and a long state of highways: the Mexico–Veracruz motorway descends from Puebla to the port, federal highway 180 runs along the coast from Tuxpan to Coatzacoalcos and the petrochemical south, and Xalapa concentrates the administration. Unlike other states, state traffic covers most municipalities, with the same regulation and the same treasury.

Context and authorities

Infractions are sanctioned under the state traffic regulation, with amounts set in Unidades de Medida y Actualización (UMA) and updated every year; unpaid ones accumulate as vehicle debts and block procedures such as plate renewal, change of ownership or verification. The Veracruz State Government portal publishes official information.

The state’s Dirección General de Tránsito y Seguridad Vial issues infractions in most cities and on state highways, and the Secretaría de Finanzas y Planeación collects vehicle debts together with vehicle control; some large municipalities run their own traffic. Clarifications are filed with the authority that recorded the infraction, within the period set by the notice.

What the API returns for this entity

A plate lookup in Veracruz walks Veracruz’s state plate lookup for infractions and returns each infraction with the authority that recorded it:

  • Authority and infraction folio exactly as the source publishes them.
  • Date, location when reported and reason for the sanction.
  • Amount, status and current discounts published by that authority.
  • Payment line or reference when the source offers one.
  • Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

How to check a plate in Veracruz

To check a plate by hand, the Veracruz State Government portal is the entity’s official channel and the REPUVE confirms the vehicle’s identity before any procedure. With ten units that is enough; with a hundred, the API walks the integrated sources by plate and returns the result split by authority, with the folio and amount each one publishes.

What to watch if you run a fleet in Veracruz

A container fleet going in and out of the port of Veracruz along the motorway and the access roads accumulates state infractions on plates that rotate among operators; looking up each plate at month end, with the per-source result stored, assigns each infraction to the driver and avoids discovering them at vehicle control.

For a company hauling cane, citrus or cattle along highway 180 from north to south, Veracruz’s advantage is that almost every infraction sits in a single state source; reading the result per source separates the few municipal ones and the federal ones from the motorways.

How to integrate

The integration starts with one POST per plate, with the entity as an optional filter. Since sources answer at their own pace, the API accepts the job and delivers the result by status or webhook; store the idempotency key before sending, as the asynchronous APIs guide describes. The API page details access.

Limits and considerations

  • Infractions on federal highways belong to the federal authority, not the state or municipal ones; the response names the authority of each.
  • UMA amounts are updated every year; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles clarifications; it delivers information to decide.
