San Luis is a province of motorways: National Route 7, the corridor between Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Chile, and Route 8 towards Villa Mercedes and Córdoba run on provincial dual carriageways with automated speed enforcement, and much of the traffic is transit, cargo and tourism heading to the hills. Urban infractions are ruled on by municipal misdemeanour courts, led by the capital and Villa Mercedes; motorway infractions depend on the provincial traffic authority.

Context and authorities

The framework is the National Traffic Law 24.449: fines in fixed units, a two-year limitation for minor offences and five for serious ones, and a defence before the court that issued the fine. The San Luis Government portal gathers official information.

The city of San Luis and Villa Mercedes rule on their urban fines in municipal misdemeanour courts, with camera fines on the avenues and at the entrances; Merlo, Juana Koslay and La Punta have their own courts. On the provincial motorways carrying Route 7 and Route 8 speed enforcement is automated, fines are issued by the provincial traffic authority and served at the registered owner’s address. A defence is filed with the authority that issued the fine.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In San Luis the API currently queries the municipal misdemeanour court of the city of San Luis and returns each fine with the authority that issued it:

  • Authority and fine number exactly as each court publishes them.
  • Date, location when reported and description of the infraction.
  • Amount, status and payment conditions published by that court.
  • Downloadable payment slip when one exists.
  • Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

How to check a plate in San Luis

The ANSV national lookup shows the fines that participating authorities load into the national system, and the San Luis Government portal gathers local procedures and rules. Checking every plate by hand on both sites is feasible with ten vehicles and stops being so with a hundred: the API automates the lookup across the integrated authorities and returns one result per source.

What to watch if you run a fleet in San Luis

The San Luis motorways concentrate speed cameras along the whole Buenos Aires–Mendoza corridor; a truck or pickup passing through receives the fine at the owner’s address weeks later, when the trip is closed and the driver has changed. Checking the plate at the close of each trip along Route 7 lets you assign the fine to the driver and deduct it in the right settlement.

For a rent-a-car or a passenger transport company heading to the hills, the peak is summer and long weekends, when checks at the entrances to Merlo and Potrero de los Funes are reinforced; checking the plate at return, with the per-source result stored, charges the fine to the right customer.

How to integrate

Each plate is sent in a POST, with the jurisdictions to include if you do not want to query all of them. The response accepts the job and the result is retrieved by status lookup or arrives by webhook once the sources finish answering. The vehicle lookup quality guide explains how to handle partial results and the API page details access.

Limits and considerations

  • Motorway fines are served on the registered owner and ruled on in the provincial jurisdiction, not in the municipality where they occurred.
  • Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
