Mendoza city is the centre of a metropolitan area of more than a million people and of the wine industry: the downtown grid of irrigation ditches and plane trees concentrates metered parking, San Martín avenue and the Costanera move daily traffic, and the eastern and southern access roads, with provincial checks, bring the rental cars and the trucks of the wineries and the corridor to Chile. Municipal fines are issued by the city; provincial ones coexist on the same plates.

Context and authority

The municipality adheres to the National Traffic Law 24.449 through the provincial law: fines are expressed in fixed units and lapse after two years if minor and five if serious. Municipal fines are ruled on by the municipality’s misdemeanour court; those issued by the province follow their own circuit, described in the Mendoza article.

The municipal misdemeanour court rules on fines issued within the city: metered and prohibited parking downtown, speeding and red lights on the camera avenues and lanes at the approaches to the centre. A defence is filed with the court within the period set by the notice; fines on the access roads and the routes are provincial, as the Mendoza article describes.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In Mendoza city the API queries the Mendoza city municipal misdemeanour court and, in the same lookup, the other integrated sources of Mendoza; it returns each fine with the authority that issued it:

  • The authority that issued the fine and its number, unnormalised.
  • The date and description of the infraction, with the location if the court reports it.
  • The amount and status current at the source, with the payment conditions it publishes.
  • The link to the payment slip when the authority offers one.
  • Which sources answered and which did not, to tell a complete result from a partial one.

How to check a plate in Mendoza city

To check a plate by hand there are three places: the Mendoza city municipal portal for municipal fines, the provincial circuit described in the Mendoza article and the ANSV national lookup for fines loaded into the national system. With ten vehicles that is enough; with a hundred, the API walks every integrated source by plate and returns the result split by authority.

What to watch if you run a fleet in Mendoza city

For a rent-a-car delivering cars to wine tourists, the city’s fines are for downtown parking and the access-road ones are provincial; checking the plate at the return of each rental, with the per-source result stored, charges each fine to the customer who was driving and pays with a discount.

A winery distribution or urban delivery fleet accumulates parking and lane fines downtown on plates that rotate among drivers; looking up each plate at month end, with the result stored, assigns each fine to the driver and covers the defence in time.

How to integrate

The integration starts with one POST per plate, with the jurisdiction as an optional filter. Since courts answer at their own pace, the API accepts the job and delivers the result by status or webhook; store the idempotency key before sending, as the asynchronous APIs guide describes. The API page details access.

Limits and considerations

  • Fines on national and provincial routes outside the town limits are not municipal; the response names the authority of each.
  • Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
