The Maule Region is the agricultural heart of the centre-south: Talca, Curicó and Linares sit on the concessioned Route 5, and the fruit, wine and timber harvests fill the routes with trucks heading to the ports of the Valparaíso and Biobío regions from January to April. Constitución adds the forestry industry of the coast. Each comuna has its local police court, Carabineros issues fines on the routes and the cameras and gantries register by plate in the Civil Registry.

Context and authorities

Traffic fines are sanctions applied by the local police court of each comuna under Law 18.290, with amounts in monthly tax units according to the seriousness of the infraction; those on motorways and highways are issued by Carabineros, and the cameras and gantries of a concessioned motorway generate complaints that arrive by post. An unpaid fine is entered in the Civil Registry’s register and blocks the circulation permit until it is paid.

The local police courts of Talca, Curicó, Linares and Constitución rule on the fines of their comunas, with parking enforcement downtown and load checks in season; the Route 5 concessionaire reports unpaid passes to the court of the gantry’s comuna. Registered fines block the circulation permit until they are paid.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In the Maule Region a plate lookup walks the integrated sources of the Chile fines API and returns each fine with the court or authority that recorded it, as the source publishes it:

  • Court or authority and case number or fine number exactly as the source publishes them.
  • Date, comuna and article infringed when the source reports it.
  • Amount in tax units and pesos, with the current status.
  • Coverage per source and a partial-result flag when any failed to answer.

How to check a plate in the Maule Region

To check a plate by hand, the Civil Registry’s certificate of unpaid traffic fines, requested online with Clave Única, shows the registered fines of any comuna; fines with a summons to the driver are checked at the local police court of the comuna. With ten units that is enough; with a hundred, the API walks the integrated sources by plate and returns the result split by authority.

What to watch if you run a fleet in the Maule Region

A fruit fleet hauling produce to the ports in season piles up Route 5 gantry complaints and Carabineros fines on hired trucks rotating between drivers; looking up each plate at month end, with the result stored per authority, lets you assign them to the trip’s driver while the dispatch note exists.

For a winery or an exporter with its own fleet, the plate lookup before renewing the circulation permit prevents a forgotten seasonal fine from leaving a truck off the road in the next harvest.

How to integrate

A lookup is a POST with the identifier and, optionally, the jurisdictions to include; the initial response accepts the job and the result arrives by status lookup or webhook, because official sources answer in seconds or minutes. The asynchronous APIs guide explains how to retry without duplicating lookups, and the API page describes the full contract.

Limits and considerations

  • Fines with a summons to the driver are processed at the corresponding local police court and are not always entered in the plate register.
  • Amounts in monthly tax units are converted at the value of the month of payment; the final amount is set by the court.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of fines.
  • The API neither pays fines nor files defences; it delivers information to decide.
