Florida is an hour from Montevideo on Route 5, which crosses it towards Durazno and the north, and Routes 56 and 7 connect it with San José and Cerro Largo; dairy and cattle farming move tanker and livestock trucks all year, and many fleets from the capital pass through without stopping. Urban fines are issued by the Intendencia and collected through SUCIVE together with the vehicle tax; those on national routes, by the Policía Caminera.

Context and authorities

Traffic fines are administrative sanctions set out in Law 18.191 and in the departmental codes, expressed in adjustable units and applied by the intendencia of the department where the infraction occurs; the Policía Caminera issues those on national routes. Since the creation of SUCIVE the fine debt is checked and paid in any department together with the vehicle tax, and an unpaid fine blocks the transfer of the vehicle.

The Intendencia’s Transit Directorate issues fines in Florida, Sarandí Grande and Casupá, with speed checks on the urban stretch of Route 5 and at the accesses; a defence is filed with the Intendencia and payment is made through SUCIVE or at its offices. Caminera fines on Route 5 are also collected through SUCIVE.

What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In Florida a plate is sent to the Uruguay fines API, which walks its integrated sources and returns each fine with the authority that applied it:

  • The authority that applied the fine and its number, unnormalised.
  • The date and reason, with the location if the source reports it.
  • The amount and status current at the source.
  • Which sources answered and which did not, on every lookup.

How to check a plate in Florida

A plate is checked by hand at SUCIVE and, for the detail and the defence, at the Florida Intendencia portal. The API does the same round at scale and returns each fine with the authority that applied it, so verification becomes part of the fleet process rather than a spreadsheet.

What to watch if you run a fleet in Florida

A dairy fleet with tanker trucks covering the farms before dawn and descending to the plants in Montevideo and San José piles up Caminera fines and those of three intendencias on units rotating between drivers; looking up each plate at month end, with the result stored per authority, lets you assign them to the trip’s driver.

For a capital company whose pickups cross Florida northwards every week, the monthly plate lookup finds the urban-stretch fines before they show up next to the vehicle tax.

How to integrate

A lookup is a POST with the identifier and, optionally, the jurisdictions to include; the initial response accepts the job and the result arrives by status lookup or webhook, because official sources answer in seconds or minutes. The asynchronous APIs guide explains how to retry without duplicating lookups, and the API page describes the full contract.

Limits and considerations

  • Fines from the Policía Caminera on national routes are processed by the Ministry of the Interior and are also collected through SUCIVE.
  • Amounts in adjustable units are converted at the current value; the final amount is set by the intendencia at the time of payment.
  • A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of fines.
  • The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
