Bahía Blanca is the grain port of southern Buenos Aires province and the hub of Routes 3, 33, 22 and 35: at harvest, thousands of trucks enter the Ingeniero White port and the petrochemical complex, and the rest of the year the city moves the trade and services of the whole region. Municipal fines are issued by the partido; route and provincial fines coexist on the same plates.
Context and authority
The framework is the National Traffic Law 24.449, which Buenos Aires adheres to: fixed units, two-year limitation for minor offences and five for serious ones. The municipal misdemeanour court rules on fines issued within the partido; route fines and those of the provincial authority are explained in the Buenos Aires article.
The municipal misdemeanour court rules on Bahía Blanca fines: documents and licensing at the checkpoints on the port and city approaches, metered parking downtown and on Alem avenue, and speeding and red lights on the ring avenues. A defence is filed with the court within the period set by the notice.
What the API returns for this jurisdiction
A plate lookup in Bahía Blanca walks the Bahía Blanca municipal misdemeanour court together with the integrated provincial sources of Buenos Aires, and returns each fine with the authority that issued it:
- The authority that issued the fine and its number, unnormalised.
- The date and description of the infraction, with the location if the court reports it.
- The amount and status current at the source, with the payment conditions it publishes.
- The link to the payment slip when the authority offers one.
- Which sources answered and which did not, to tell a complete result from a partial one.
What the data shows
- Median age of fines without a recorded resolution
- 250 days
- Median amount band
- ARS 50,000 – ARS 100,000
Mix by infraction category
Neither lookups with a fine nor voluntary payment for Bahía Blanca reached the publication floor of the data methodology; the sample of fines observed is between one hundred and five hundred. The mix differs from the suburbs: documents and licensing and parking explain three quarters of the fines, and speeding barely appears.
The median amount band is ARS 50,000 – ARS 100,000, among the lowest we publish, consistent with parking and document fines rather than speeding; the median age of open fines is 250 days.
Case study: fleets that look up plates in Bahía Blanca
- Fleet accounts in the sample
- 50
- Distinct plates looked up by fleets
- 2,040
The fleet cohort, 50 accounts with twenty or more plates and 2,040 plates in total, had fewer than fifty lookups with a Bahía Blanca fine, the floor the data methodology requires to publish a share; the figure exists, but it is not published below that threshold.
For a grain transport company arriving at the port during harvest, Bahía Blanca fines are about documents: an expired technical inspection, the driver’s licence, insurance. They are cheap, but they add up truck by truck and show up at the worst moment, at the access checkpoint. Checking every plate before the season and at the close of each month solves the problem for less than a stopped truck costs.
How to integrate
The integration starts with one POST per plate, with the jurisdiction as an optional filter. Since courts answer at their own pace, the API accepts the job and delivers the result by status or webhook; store the idempotency key before sending, as the asynchronous APIs guide describes. The API page details access.

}The result arrives split by authority: a municipal court with no fines says nothing about the provincial source or the neighbouring municipalities, and the partial-result flag shows whether any source failed to answer.
Limits and considerations
- Fines on Routes 3, 33 and 22 are provincial or national, not municipal; the response names the authority of each.
- Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
- Proprietary data comes from user lookups, not from a registry: the share of fines is skewed towards suspect plates.
- A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
