Jurisdiction

State of Yucatán · Mexico

Yucatán revolves around Mérida: the Periférico, the city’s avenues and the corridor to Progreso and Cancún along highway 180 move distribution fleets, tourist transfers and cargo transport towards the port and the Riviera Maya. Traffic is handled by the state police, even inside Mérida, and the official infraction lookup requires the vehicle’s VIN as well as the plate.

## Context and authorities

The framework is the entity’s traffic regulation and, on federal roads, the federal regulation: fines are expressed as multiples of the Unidad de Medida y Actualización (UMA) and collected as tax credits, with late surcharges. Many vehicle procedures, such as emissions verification or plate renewal, require having no pending infractions. Institutional information is on the [Mérida city council portal](https://www.merida.gob.mx/).

The state’s Secretaría de Seguridad Pública, through its traffic police, issues infractions in Mérida and on state highways, and the Agencia de Administración Fiscal collects vehicle debts together with plate renewal; the Mérida city council runs parking and local roads. Clarifications are filed with the authority that recorded the infraction, within the period set by the notice.

## What the API returns for this entity

A plate lookup in Yucatán walks Yucatán’s state lookup for infractions by plate and VIN and returns each infraction with the authority that recorded it:

- Authority and infraction folio exactly as the source publishes them.
- Date, location when reported and reason for the sanction.
- Amount, status and current discounts published by that authority.
- Payment line or reference when the source offers one.
- Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

The response splits the result by source and the partial-result flag shows whether any failed to answer: read it per authority, not as a national total.

## How to check a plate in Yucatán

To check a plate by hand, the [Mérida city council portal](https://www.merida.gob.mx/) is the entity’s official channel and the [REPUVE](https://www.gob.mx/sesnsp) confirms the vehicle’s identity before any procedure. With ten units that is enough; with a hundred, the API walks the integrated sources by plate and returns the result split by authority, with the folio and amount each one publishes.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in Yucatán

A distribution fleet covering Mérida and the corridor to Progreso accumulates state infractions on plates that rotate among operators; looking up each plate at month end, with the VIN loaded in advance in the fleet system and the per-source result stored, assigns each infraction to the driver and avoids discovering them at plate renewal.

For a tourist transfer company between Mérida and the Riviera Maya, infractions show up weeks later on units that have already changed driver; having each unit’s plate and VIN ready makes it possible to look up at the return of each service and charge the infraction to whoever was driving.

## How to integrate

Each plate is sent in a POST, with the entities to include if you do not want to query all of them. The response accepts the job and the result is retrieved by status lookup or arrives by webhook once the sources finish answering. The [vehicle lookup quality](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/vehicle-data-quality/) guide explains how to handle partial results and the [API page](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) details access.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

```json
{
  "plate": "ABC123A",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "MX-YUC"
  ]
}
```

## Limits and considerations

- The Yucatán source requires the VIN (vehicle identification number) as well as the plate; without it the lookup cannot be completed.
- Infractions on federal highways belong to the federal authority, not the state or municipal ones; the response names the authority of each.
- UMA amounts are updated every year; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
- A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles clarifications; it delivers information to decide.
