In season, Argentine plates and plates from the whole south fill the coast. Infractions are applied by DETRAN-SC in the registry, by the municipal bodies in the cities, by the military police on state roads and by the Federal Highway Police on federal ones. ## Context and authorities Under the [Brazilian Traffic Code](https://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/leis/l9503compilado.htm) fines have a fixed value per seriousness, add points to the licence and are paid with a discount by joining the electronic notification system; a vehicle with overdue fines gets neither the annual licensing nor the transfer. The state DETRAN concentrates those from state roads and the registry, municipalities apply those from their streets and the Federal Highway Police those from federal highways, integrated by [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran). DETRAN-SC is the registry body: it enters the infraction against the plate and the RENAVAM and processes the notice, the defence and the appeal; Florianópolis, Joinville, Blumenau and Itajaí have their own municipal bodies with cameras, and the military highway police enforces the state roads. The BR-101 concessionaire and the Federal Highway Police act on federal highways; the annual licensing stays blocked while an overdue fine exists. ## What the API returns for this jurisdiction In Santa Catarina a plate, with the RENAVAM when the source requires it, is sent to the [Brazil fines API](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-brazil/), which walks its integrated sources and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it: - The body that recorded the infraction and its number, unnormalised. - The date and reason, with the location if the source reports it. - The value and status current at the source. - Which sources answered and which did not, on every lookup. The response splits the result by source and the partial-result flag shows whether any failed to answer; infractions in Santa Catarina are also checked at the DETRAN, as described below. ## How to check a plate in Santa Catarina A plate is checked by hand at the [DETRAN-SC portal](https://www.detran.sc.gov.br/) and, for infractions from other bodies, in [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran)’s national channels. The API does the same round at scale and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it, so verification becomes part of the fleet process rather than a spreadsheet. ## What to watch if you run a fleet in Santa Catarina A container fleet running between Itajaí, Navegantes and the interior on BR-101 and BR-470 piles up PRF camera infractions and those of the valley’s municipal bodies on plates passing from one driver to another; looking up the plates every month and filing the result per body lets you name the driver while the period is still open. For a rent-a-car in Florianópolis delivering cars to Argentine tourists in summer, the plate lookup at the return of each rental charges the customer the camera infraction that would otherwise show up at licensing with the points on the company. ## How to integrate Each vehicle is sent in a POST, with the jurisdictions to include if you do not want to query all of them. The response accepts the job and the result is retrieved by status lookup or arrives by webhook once the sources finish answering.
