Jurisdiction

State of San Luis Potosí · Mexico

San Luis Potosí is a crossroads: Highway 57 joining Querétaro with Saltillo and the border runs through the capital, Highway 70 links it with Tampico and the Huasteca of Ciudad Valles, and the automotive plants and logistics parks south of the city attract supplier fleets from the whole Bajío. Urban infractions are issued by the capital’s road police and the municipal transit offices, and those on state roads by the state authority; debts are collected with the state renewal.

## Context and authorities

As in the rest of the country, traffic fines are administrative sanctions set in UMA by the state regulation, with a discount for timely payment in many entities and surcharges once overdue; pending debts block vehicle procedures. For local procedures and rules, the starting point is the [San Luis Potosí Government portal](https://slp.gob.mx/).

The state security secretariat and the road police issue infractions on state highways and in the capital; Soledad, Ciudad Valles and Matehuala have their own transit offices and treasuries, and federal Highways 57 and 70 belong to the National Guard. The state finance secretariat adds vehicle debts to the renewal and to plate procedures, and does not release them with final pending infractions.

## What the API returns for this entity

In San Luis Potosí a plate lookup walks the integrated sources of the [Mexico fines API](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) and returns each infraction with the authority that recorded it, as the source publishes it:

- The authority that recorded the infraction and its folio, unnormalised.
- The date and reason, with the location if the source reports it.
- The amount and status current at the source, with the discounts it publishes.
- The payment reference when the authority offers one.
- Which sources answered and which did not, to tell a complete result from a partial one.

The response splits the result by source and the partial-result flag shows whether any failed to answer; vehicle debts in San Luis Potosí are also checked on the state portal described below.

## How to check a plate in San Luis Potosí

A plate is checked by hand at the [San Luis Potosí Government portal](https://slp.gob.mx/) and, for the vehicle’s identity, at the [REPUVE](https://www.gob.mx/sesnsp). The API does the same round at scale and returns each infraction with the authority that recorded it, so verification becomes part of the fleet process rather than a spreadsheet.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in San Luis Potosí

A fleet of automotive suppliers climbing Highway 57 from the Bajío and crossing San Luis Potosí several times a week piles up state and municipal infractions in passing on units registered in Querétaro or Guanajuato; the notice reaches the company weeks later. Looking up each plate at month end, with the result stored per authority, lets you assign each infraction to the trip’s operator.

For a transport company of the Huasteca combining Highway 70 and state roads, the plate lookup before the renewal prevents a forgotten debt from leaving a unit off the road during the sugar harvest.

## How to integrate

Each plate is sent in a POST, with the entities to include if you do not want to query all of them. The response accepts the job and the result is retrieved by status lookup or arrives by webhook once the sources finish answering. The [vehicle lookup quality](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/vehicle-data-quality/) guide explains how to handle partial results and the [API page](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) details access.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

```json
{
  "plate": "ABC123A",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "MX-SLP"
  ]
}
```

## Limits and considerations

- Infractions on federal highways are issued by the National Guard and paid separately from state debts.
- UMA amounts are updated every year; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
- A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles clarifications; it delivers information to decide.
