Infractions are applied by DETRAN-RO in the registry, by the municipal bodies in Porto Velho and Ji-Paraná, by the military police on state roads and by the Federal Highway Police on BR-364 and BR-425. ## Context and authorities Infractions are governed by the [Brazilian Traffic Code](https://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/leis/l9503compilado.htm): each has a fixed value, a seriousness and a number of points recorded on the licence of the identified driver, and they are notified in two stages, the citation and the penalty, with periods for the prior defence and the appeal. The state DETRAN, municipalities with municipalised traffic and the Federal Highway Police apply them; [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran) coordinates the national systems. DETRAN-RO records each infraction against the plate and the RENAVAM, notifies the owner and receives the prior defence and the appeals; Porto Velho, Ji-Paraná and Vilhena have their own municipal bodies with cameras, and DER-RO enforces the state roads.
