Infractions are applied by DETRAN-PR in the registry, by the municipal bodies in the cities, by the military police on state roads and by the Federal Highway Police on federal ones. ## Context and authorities Infractions are governed by the [Brazilian Traffic Code](https://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/leis/l9503compilado.htm): each has a fixed value, a seriousness and a number of points recorded on the licence of the identified driver, and they are notified in two stages, the citation and the penalty, with periods for the prior defence and the appeal. The state DETRAN, municipalities with municipalised traffic and the Federal Highway Police apply them; [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran) coordinates the national systems. DETRAN-PR keeps the plate and RENAVAM register, where each infraction is entered, and processes the prior defence and the appeals before the JARI; Curitiba, Londrina, Maringá and Foz do Iguaçu have their own municipal bodies with cameras, and DER-PR enforces the state roads. The concessionaires of the integration ring routes and the Federal Highway Police act on federal highways; no overdue fine may remain pending when licensing the vehicle. ## What the API returns for this jurisdiction In Paraná a plate, with the RENAVAM when the source requires it, is sent to the [Brazil fines API](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-brazil/), which walks its integrated sources and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it: - The body that recorded the infraction and its number, unnormalised. - The date and reason, with the location if the source reports it. - The value and status current at the source. - Which sources answered and which did not, on every lookup. The response splits the result by source and the partial-result flag shows whether any failed to answer; infractions in Paraná are also checked at the DETRAN, as described below. ## How to check a plate in Paraná A plate is checked by hand at the [DETRAN-PR portal](https://www.detran.pr.gov.br/) and, for infractions from other bodies, in [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran)’s national channels. The API does the same round at scale and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it, so verification becomes part of the fleet process rather than a spreadsheet. ## What to watch if you run a fleet in Paraná A grain fleet descending to Paranaguá on BR-277 at harvest piles up PRF camera and overload infractions and those of the mountain municipal bodies on units that change driver every trip; a plate lookup at the close of each month, stored per body, lets you name the driver before the citation period expires. For a Foz do Iguaçu carrier with units crossing into Paraguay and Argentina daily, the plate lookup before licensing separates Brazilian infractions from those of the other countries, which follow another circuit. ## How to integrate A lookup is a POST with the identifier and, optionally, the jurisdictions to include; the initial response accepts the job and the result arrives by status lookup or webhook, because official sources answer in seconds or minutes.
