Jurisdiction

State of Oaxaca · Mexico

Oaxaca combines a colonial capital of narrow streets with the new motorway to Puerto Escondido, Highway 190 towards the Isthmus and the interoceanic corridor joining Salina Cruz with Coatzacoalcos, plus Highways 175 and 200 towards Huatulco. Tourism vans, freight from the Isthmus and service fleets travel a state of hundreds of municipalities with their own customs. Urban infractions are issued by the municipal transit offices, above all in the capital, and those on state highways by the state road police; debts are collected with the state renewal.

## Context and authorities

Each entity applies its own traffic regulation and its early-payment discount calendar; amounts are set in UMA and overdue debts are collected with updates and surcharges. The link with the tenencia tax, plate renewal and verification means a forgotten infraction shows up right at the procedure. The [Oaxaca Government portal](https://www.oaxaca.gob.mx/) gathers official information.

The state mobility secretariat and the road police issue infractions on state highways and in public transport; the capital and the large municipalities have their own transit office, and in the municipalities governed by customary law the collection depends on the local authority. The state finance secretariat adds infractions to the vehicle debt and conditions the renewal and re-plating on paying final infractions.

## What the API returns for this entity

In Oaxaca a plate lookup walks the integrated sources of the [Mexico fines API](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) and returns each infraction with the authority that recorded it, as the source publishes it:

- Authority and infraction folio exactly as the source publishes them.
- Date, location when reported and reason for the sanction.
- Amount, status and current discounts published by that authority.
- Payment line or reference when the source offers one.
- Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

The response splits the result by source and the partial-result flag shows whether any failed to answer; vehicle debts in Oaxaca are also checked on the state portal described below.

## How to check a plate in Oaxaca

To check a plate by hand, the [Oaxaca Government portal](https://www.oaxaca.gob.mx/) is the entity’s official channel and the [REPUVE](https://www.gob.mx/sesnsp) confirms the vehicle’s identity before any procedure. With ten units that is enough; with a hundred, the API walks the integrated sources by plate and returns the result split by authority, with the folio and amount each one publishes.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in Oaxaca

A tour operator descending from the capital to the coast on the new motorway and returning on Highway 175 piles up state infractions on the highway and municipal ones in the capital on vans that rotate between drivers; the notice arrives weeks later. Looking up each plate at month end, with the result stored per authority, lets you assign each infraction to the trip’s driver.

For a freight fleet of the interoceanic corridor based in Salina Cruz, the plate lookup before each renewal prevents a forgotten debt from leaving a trailer idle at the port.

## How to integrate

The integration starts with one POST per plate, with the entity as an optional filter. Since sources answer at their own pace, the API accepts the job and delivers the result by status or webhook; store the idempotency key before sending, as the [asynchronous APIs](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/asynchronous-api-retries-without-duplicate-work/) guide describes. The [API page](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) details access.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

```json
{
  "plate": "ABC123A",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "MX-OAX"
  ]
}
```

## Limits and considerations

- Infractions on federal highways are issued by the National Guard and paid separately from state debts.
- UMA amounts are updated every year; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
- A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles clarifications; it delivers information to decide.
