# Traffic fines in La Rioja: authorities, deadlines and API lookups

How traffic fines work in La Rioja, between the capital, Chilecito and Routes 38 and 40, and how an agro-industrial or mining fleet queries them by plate with the API.

Jurisdiction

La Rioja Province · Argentina

La Rioja is travelled along National Route 38, which links the capital with Catamarca and Córdoba, and along Route 40 towards Chilecito, the Bermejo valley and the parks of the west. Commercial traffic is agro-industry, mining and tourism heading to Talampaya, with checks at town entrances and on mountain routes. Urban infractions are ruled on by municipal misdemeanour courts, led by the capital and Chilecito; route infractions depend on the provincial road-safety authority.

## Context and authorities

The province adheres to the [National Traffic Law 24.449](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/ley-24449-818/texto), so amounts are expressed in fixed units and the limitation period is two years for minor offences and five for serious ones. The [La Rioja Government portal](https://www.larioja.gob.ar/) publishes institutional information.

The city of La Rioja rules on its urban fines at the municipal misdemeanour court, with camera fines on the ring avenues and at the entrances from Route 38; Chilecito, Aimogasta and Chamical have their own courts. On Route 38 towards Catamarca and Córdoba and on Route 40 towards Chilecito and the Bermejo valley, fines are issued by the provincial road-safety authority, with checks on the Cuesta de Miranda and at the park entrances. A defence is filed with the authority that issued the fine.

## What the API returns for this jurisdiction

For La Rioja, every plate lookup returns the fines reported by the queried authorities, with the authority that issued them:

- Authority and fine number exactly as each court publishes them.
- Date, location when reported and description of the infraction.
- Amount, status and payment conditions published by that court.
- Downloadable payment slip when one exists.
- Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

Each source answers separately and the partial-result flag shows whether any failed to answer: read the result per authority, not as a La Rioja total.

## How to check a plate in La Rioja

Two official channels cover manual checks: the [ANSV national lookup](https://consultainfracciones.seguridadvial.gob.ar/), which gathers fines from participating authorities, and the [La Rioja Government portal](https://www.larioja.gob.ar/) for local procedures. As volume grows, the API queries the integrated authorities by plate and delivers one result per source, with the date and amount each court publishes.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in La Rioja

Agro-industry and western mining project pickups, and tourist vehicles heading to Talampaya, share mountain routes with checks on the slopes and at the park entrances; a fine issued on the Cuesta de Miranda is ruled on in the capital and reaches the owning company once the vehicle has already changed driver. Checking the plate at the close of each rotation avoids arguing about who was driving months later.

For a fleet based outside the province, Route 38 is a transit route: speeding fines on the urban stretches of Chamical or Patquía resurface at later checks and make regularisation more expensive. A plate check thirty days after each trip along Route 38, with the result stored, settles traceability and the defence in time.

## How to integrate

Each plate is sent in a POST, with the jurisdictions to include if you do not want to query all of them. The response accepts the job and the result is retrieved by status lookup or arrives by webhook once the sources finish answering. The [vehicle lookup quality](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/vehicle-data-quality/) guide explains how to handle partial results and the [API page](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-argentina/) details access.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

  "plate": "ABC123",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "AR-F"
  ]
}
```
## Limits and considerations
-   Route fines from Routes 38 and 40 are ruled on in the capital or in the checkpoint’s municipality, not where they occurred.
-   Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
-   A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
-   The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
