Jurisdiction

State of Jalisco · Mexico

Jalisco concentrates in the Guadalajara metropolitan area, with Zapopan, Tlaquepaque and Tonalá, one of the largest vehicle fleets in the country, plus the corridors to Puerto Vallarta, to Colima and Manzanillo and to Lagos de Moreno towards the Bajío. Urban infractions are issued by the state road police and the municipal transit offices, with a camera-enforcement programme on the metropolitan avenues; debts accumulate on the plate and are collected together with the annual renewal.

## Context and authorities

The framework is the entity’s traffic regulation and, on federal roads, the federal regulation: fines are expressed as multiples of the Unidad de Medida y Actualización (UMA) and collected as tax credits, with late surcharges. Many vehicle procedures, such as emissions verification or plate renewal, require having no pending infractions. Institutional information is on the [Jalisco Government portal](https://www.jalisco.gob.mx/).

The state mobility authority and the road police issue infractions on state roads and in the metropolis, and each conurbated municipality has its own transit office for its streets; camera infractions are notified to the owner’s address and paid with a discount within the period set by the regulation. The state finance secretariat publishes the total vehicle debt, with infractions, renewal and surcharges, and does not release the renewal while final unpaid infractions exist.

## What the API returns for this entity

In Jalisco a plate lookup walks the integrated sources of the [Mexico fines API](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) and returns each infraction with the authority that recorded it, as the source publishes it:

- Authority and infraction folio exactly as the source publishes them.
- Date, location when reported and reason for the sanction.
- Amount, status and current discounts published by that authority.
- Payment line or reference when the source offers one.
- Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

The response reports which sources were queried and which answered; for Jalisco, the official channel for vehicle debts is the state portal described below, and a result with no infractions in the integrated sources does not rule out debts recorded there.

## How to check a plate in Jalisco

To check a plate by hand, the [Jalisco Government portal](https://www.jalisco.gob.mx/) is the entity’s official channel and the [REPUVE](https://www.gob.mx/sesnsp) confirms the vehicle’s identity before any procedure. With ten units that is enough; with a hundred, the API walks the integrated sources by plate and returns the result split by authority, with the folio and amount each one publishes.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in Jalisco

A delivery or platform fleet working in the metropolis piles up camera infractions on plates that rotate between drivers, and the notice reaches the company’s tax address weeks later. Looking up each plate at month end, with the result stored per authority, lets you charge the infraction to the driver of that shift before the discount expires.

For a company renewing the registration of its whole fleet in January, a plate lookup in December finds the debts that would block the procedure and leaves time to pay them with a discount or clarify them.

## How to integrate

A lookup is a POST with the plate and, optionally, the entities to include; the initial response accepts the job and the result arrives by status lookup or webhook, because official sources answer in seconds or minutes. The [asynchronous APIs](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/asynchronous-api-retries-without-duplicate-work/) guide explains how to retry without duplicating work and the [API page](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) details access.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

```json
{
  "plate": "ABC123A",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "MX-JAL"
  ]
}
```

## Limits and considerations

- Infractions on federal highways are issued by the National Guard and paid separately from state debts.
- UMA amounts are updated every year; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
- A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles clarifications; it delivers information to decide.
