Jurisdiction

State of Guanajuato · Mexico

Guanajuato is the Bajío’s automotive corridor: León, Irapuato, Celaya, Silao and Salamanca are linked by federal highway 45 and the state motorways, with assembly plants, auto-parts parks and a logistics network moving thousands of tractor-trailers and pickups every day. Each municipality applies its traffic regulation on its streets; the state runs the vehicle registry and collects debts together with plate renewal.

## Context and authorities

The framework is the entity’s traffic regulation and, on federal roads, the federal regulation: fines are expressed as multiples of the Unidad de Medida y Actualización (UMA) and collected as tax credits, with late surcharges. Many vehicle procedures, such as emissions verification or plate renewal, require having no pending infractions. Institutional information is on the [Guanajuato State Government portal](https://www.guanajuato.gob.mx/).

The municipal traffic offices of León, Irapuato, Celaya and the other municipalities issue and collect their infractions; the state’s Fuerzas de Seguridad Pública issue them on state highways, and the Secretaría de Finanzas, Inversión y Administración collects vehicle debts. Clarifications are filed with the authority that recorded the infraction, within the period set by the notice.

## What the API returns for this entity

In Guanajuato the API queries Guanajuato’s state plate lookup for infractions and returns each infraction with the authority that recorded it:

- Authority and infraction folio exactly as the source publishes them.
- Date, location when reported and reason for the sanction.
- Amount, status and current discounts published by that authority.
- Payment line or reference when the source offers one.
- Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

The response splits the result by source and the partial-result flag shows whether any failed to answer: read it per authority, not as a national total.

## How to check a plate in Guanajuato

Manual verification starts at the [Guanajuato State Government portal](https://www.guanajuato.gob.mx/) and is completed with the citizen lookup of the [REPUVE](https://www.gob.mx/sesnsp), which confirms plate, serial number and theft report. That round, repeated for every unit, is what the API replaces: one lookup per plate across the integrated sources, with the result per source so you know what was verified.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in Guanajuato

An auto-parts fleet going from Silao to Celaya and León in a single day crosses three municipal regulations and the state highways; looking up each plate at month end, with the per-source result stored, assigns each infraction to the driver and avoids discovering them at plate renewal.

For a staff transport company serving the industrial parks, units registered in the state need to be free of debts for plate renewal; a plate lookup before each procedure avoids rejections and uses the early-payment discounts.

## How to integrate

A lookup is a POST with the plate and, optionally, the entities to include; the initial response accepts the job and the result arrives by status lookup or webhook, because official sources answer in seconds or minutes. The [asynchronous APIs](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/asynchronous-api-retries-without-duplicate-work/) guide explains how to retry without duplicating work and the [API page](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) details access.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

```json
{
  "plate": "ABC123A",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "MX-GUA"
  ]
}
```

## Limits and considerations

- Infractions on federal highway 45 belong to the federal authority; the response names the authority of each.
- UMA amounts are updated every year; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
- A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles clarifications; it delivers information to decide.
