# Traffic fines in Formosa: authorities, deadlines and API lookups

How traffic fines work in Formosa, between the capital, Clorinda and the Route 81 checkpoints, and how a cargo company queries them by plate with the API.

Formosa is a border and transit province: National Route 11 links it with Chaco and with the bridge to Paraguay, and Route 81 crosses the west towards Salta. Commercial traffic is mostly cargo and rural-service pickups, with checks concentrated at the entrances to the capital and at route checkpoints. Urban infractions are ruled on by municipal misdemeanour courts; route infractions depend on the provincial road-safety authority.

Amounts and deadlines follow the [National Traffic Law 24.449](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/ley-24449-818/texto): fixed units, two-year limitation for minor offences and five for serious ones. The city of Formosa concentrates most urban fines in its municipal misdemeanour court, with checks on the ring avenue and at the entrances from Route 11; Clorinda, on the border, has its own and adds customs and Gendarmería checks at the bridge. On Route 81 the provincial checkpoints issue speeding, document and cargo fines that are ruled on in the capital. A defence is filed with the authority that issued the fine.

## What the API returns for this jurisdiction

A plate lookup in Formosa returns the fines reported by the queried authorities, each with the authority that issued it:

-   The authority that issued the fine and its number, unnormalised.
-   The date and description of the infraction, with the location if the court reports it.
-   The amount and status current at the source, with the payment conditions it publishes.
-   The link to the payment slip when the authority offers one.
-   Which sources answered and which did not, to tell a complete result from a partial one.

The response splits the result by authority and reports which ones answered; a result with no fines in one does not rule out fines in another Formosa authority.

## How to check a plate in Formosa

To check a plate by hand, the [ANSV national lookup](https://consultainfracciones.seguridadvial.gob.ar/) lists the fines loaded by participating authorities and the [Formosa Government portal](https://www.formosa.gob.ar/) points to each municipal court. The API does the same at scale: it walks the integrated authorities by plate and returns the fines with their origin, so verification becomes part of the process rather than a spreadsheet.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in Formosa

Cargo transport crossing into Paraguay through Clorinda or climbing Route 81 towards Salta passes checkpoints where the vehicle’s documents and the driver’s licence are checked systematically; an unpaid earlier fine does not block the crossing, but it shows up at every later check and makes regularisation more expensive. Checking the plate before assigning an international trip avoids sending a truck with open fines to the bridge.

Rural-service and cooperative pickups are lent between farms and drivers during the season; when the fine reaches the owning company, weeks later, nobody remembers who was driving. A plate lookup at the start and end of each assignment, with the result stored, settles traceability before it has to be argued.

## Limits and considerations

-   Fines from the Route 81 checkpoints are ruled on in the capital, far from where they occurred; the defence period runs from the notice.
-   Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
-   A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
-   The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
