Infractions are applied by DETRAN-ES in the registry, by the municipal bodies in the cities, by the military police on state roads and by the Federal Highway Police on federal ones. ## Context and authorities Infractions are governed by the [Brazilian Traffic Code](https://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/leis/l9503compilado.htm): each has a fixed value, a seriousness and a number of points recorded on the licence of the identified driver, and they are notified in two stages, the citation and the penalty, with periods for the prior defence and the appeal. The state DETRAN, municipalities with municipalised traffic and the Federal Highway Police apply them; [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran) coordinates the national systems. DETRAN-ES records each infraction against the plate and the RENAVAM, notifies the owner and receives the prior defence and the appeals; Vitória, Vila Velha, Serra and Cariacica have their own municipal bodies with cameras, and DER-ES enforces state roads such as the Rodovia do Sol. The BR-101 concessionaire and the Federal Highway Police act on federal highways; with an overdue fine the annual licensing is not issued. ## What the API returns for this jurisdiction In Espírito Santo a plate, with the RENAVAM when the source requires it, is sent to the [Brazil fines API](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-brazil/), which walks its integrated sources and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it: - Issuing body and infraction notice number exactly as the source publishes them. - Date, location and infraction code under the traffic code. - Value, status (citation, penalty, paid) and points when the source reports them. - Coverage per source and a partial-result flag when any failed to answer. The response reports which sources were queried and which answered; for Espírito Santo, the official channel is the DETRAN portal described below, and a result with no infractions in the integrated sources does not rule out records there or at the Federal Highway Police. ## How to check a plate in Espírito Santo Manual verification starts at the [DETRAN-ES portal](https://detran.es.gov.br/), with plate and RENAVAM, and is completed in [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran)’s national app for infractions from other states and from federal highways. That round, repeated for every unit, is what the API replaces: one lookup per plate across the integrated sources, with the result per source. ## What to watch if you run a fleet in Espírito Santo A container or ore fleet entering and leaving the ports of Vitória crosses four municipalities with their own bodies and piles up BR-101 and BR-262 camera infractions on trucks without a fixed driver; with the monthly plate lookup and the result filed per body, the company names the driver within the period. For a company in Serra licensing its whole fleet in the same month, the plate lookup before the procedure finds the municipal and concessionaire infractions that would block it. ## How to integrate The integration starts with one POST per vehicle, with the jurisdiction as an optional filter.
