Jurisdiction

Durazno Department · Uruguay

Durazno sits in the centre of the country: Route 5 crosses it from south to north towards Tacuarembó and Rivera, Route 14 runs through it from west to east, and the city of Durazno, on the Yí river, is the capital; on the northern boundary, on the Negro river, the pulp mill and the central railway changed the timber-truck traffic. Urban fines are issued by the Intendencia and collected through SUCIVE; those on the routes, by the Policía Caminera.

## Context and authorities

Traffic fines are administrative sanctions set out in [Law 18.191](https://www.impo.com.uy/bases/leyes/18191-2007) and in the departmental codes, expressed in adjustable units and applied by the intendencia of the department where the infraction occurs; the Policía Caminera issues those on national routes. Since the creation of [SUCIVE](https://www.sucive.gub.uy/) the fine debt is checked and paid in any department together with the vehicle tax, and an unpaid fine blocks the transfer of the vehicle.

The Intendencia’s Transit Directorate issues fines in Durazno, Sarandí del Yí and Villa del Carmen, with speed checks on the urban stretch of Route 5; a defence is filed with the Intendencia and payment is made through SUCIVE or at its offices. Caminera fines on Routes 5 and 14 are also collected through SUCIVE together with the vehicle tax.

## What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In Durazno a plate lookup walks the integrated sources of the [Uruguay fines API](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-uruguay/) and returns each fine with the intendencia or authority that applied it, as the source publishes it:

- Intendencia or authority and fine number exactly as the source publishes them.
- Date, location when reported and article infringed.
- Amount in adjustable units and pesos, with the status current at the source.
- Coverage per source and a partial-result flag when any failed to answer.

The response reports which sources were queried and which answered; for Durazno, the official channel for debts is SUCIVE and the intendencia portal, described below, and a result with no fines in the integrated sources does not rule out debts recorded there.

## How to check a plate in Durazno

Manual verification starts at [SUCIVE](https://www.sucive.gub.uy/), which unifies tax and fine debts of the nineteen departments, and continues at the [Durazno Intendencia portal](https://www.durazno.gub.uy/) for the detail of each fine and the defence. That round, repeated for every unit, is what the API replaces: one lookup per plate across the integrated sources, with the result per source.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in Durazno

A forestry fleet supplying the pulp mill from the centre and the north of the country travels Routes 5 and 14 with trucks rotating between drivers and piles up Caminera fines and those of several intendencias; looking up each plate at month end, with the result stored per authority, lets you assign them to the trip’s driver while the load document exists.

For a cattle transport company based in Durazno, the plate lookup before each vehicle-tax instalment prevents a forgotten urban-stretch fine from blocking the payment.

## How to integrate

Each vehicle is sent in a POST, with the jurisdictions to include if you do not want to query all of them. The response accepts the job and the result is retrieved by status lookup or arrives by webhook once the sources finish answering. The [vehicle lookup quality](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/vehicle-data-quality/) guide explains how to handle a source that did not answer.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

```json
{
  "plate": "SBC1234",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "UY-DU"
  ]
}
```

## Limits and considerations

- Fines from the Policía Caminera on national routes are processed by the Ministry of the Interior and are also collected through SUCIVE.
- Amounts in adjustable units are converted at the current value; the final amount is set by the intendencia at the time of payment.
- A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of fines.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
