# Traffic fines in Corrientes: what the API returns and what the data shows

The Corrientes fines we observe come both from the province and from small towns on the routes to Brazil. What the API returns and why the authority matters as much as the amount.

Jurisdiction

Corrientes Province · Argentina

In Corrientes, the Provincial Traffic Directorate, with jurisdiction over provincial routes, coexists with municipal misdemeanour courts, including small towns such as Riachuelo, La Cruz, Parada Pucheta or Ramada Paso, located on national routes 12 and 14 that link the centre of the country with Misiones and the crossings into Brazil and Uruguay. A good part of the fines we observe belong to vehicles passing through that never return to those towns.

## Context and authority

Institutional information is on the [Corrientes Government portal](https://www.corrientes.gob.ar/); there is no single lookup and payment portal for all the courts, and voluntary-payment conditions are checked at each one. Defences are filed within five business days of notification.

Limitation periods follow the [National Traffic Law 24.449](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/ley-24449-818/texto): two years for minor offences and five for serious ones. The practical consequence for a long-haul fleet is that a single fine in a corridor town forces paperwork hundreds of kilometres from base.

## What the API returns for this jurisdiction

The API queries the Corrientes provincial source and the integrated municipal courts along the corridor by plate, and returns each fine with the exact authority that rules on it:

- Authority and fine number, without normalising formats across courts.
- Infraction date and description, to attribute it to a specific trip.
- Amount, status and voluntary payment when the court publishes them.
- Downloadable payment slip when one exists.
- Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

The capital and other Corrientes municipalities are not yet integrated; the response marks them as out of coverage instead of reporting “no fines”.

2% of plate lookups in the period found at least one Corrientes fine; most people who look up plates do not drive through the province, so the share describes the corridor more than the local population. Half of the observed fines are for speeding and the other half is spread across categories the sources describe with little detail.

The median amount band is ARS 100,000 – ARS 250,000; 60% of the fines offered voluntary payment at lookup time and the median age without a recorded resolution is 250 days.

November, January and October are the months with the most fines: traffic towards the coast and towards Brazil in the summer season.

## Case study: fleets that look up plates in Corrientes

Distinct plates looked up by fleets

Sample: 100–500 fine records, 50.000+ lookups · [See the data methodology](https://apinitro.com/en/data-methodology/)

The fleet cohort, 50 accounts with twenty or more plates and 2,040 plates in total, had fewer than fifty lookups with a Corrientes fine, the floor the [data methodology](https://apinitro.com/en/data-methodology/) requires to publish a share.

The relevant case is an international transport company crossing into Brazil through Paso de los Libres or Santo Tomé: its trucks cross half a dozen Corrientes jurisdictions per trip and the back office discovered the corridor towns’ fines when renewing permits, with voluntary payment expired and the paperwork hundreds of kilometres away. With the lookup integrated at the end of each trip, the fine arrives with the court identified and is resolved from base.

## How to integrate

The lookup is a POST with the plate; the API accepts the job immediately and the result arrives by status or webhook with the fines from each source and their authority.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

```json
{
  "plate": "ABC123",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "AR-W"
  ]
}
```

For long-haul fleets, look up plates at the end of each trip and reconcile by fine number, as the guide on [vehicle lookup quality](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/vehicle-data-quality/) suggests. The [API page](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-argentina/) details access.

## Limits and considerations

- Only integrated Corrientes courts are queried; the capital and other municipalities remain out of coverage.
- Small courts publish with delays; a source that does not respond is reported as pending.
- Fine descriptions are brief in several sources; the category may remain as “other”.
- Our data comes from user lookups and does not describe the Corrientes vehicle fleet.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles defences.
