# Traffic fines in Catamarca: authorities, deadlines and API lookups

How traffic fines work in Catamarca, which authorities rule on them, how to check a plate and how to query them by API from a fleet process.

Catamarca is a province of long routes and working traffic: National Route 38 towards Tucumán and La Rioja, Route 60 towards the San Francisco pass and the roads to the mining projects in the west move contractor pickups that are rarely local. Urban infractions are ruled on by municipal misdemeanour courts, starting with San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, and route infractions depend on the provincial road-safety authority.

## Context and authorities

Amounts and deadlines follow the [National Traffic Law 24.449](https://www.argentina.gob.ar/normativa/nacional/ley-24449-818/texto): fixed units, two-year limitation for minor offences and five for serious ones. In the capital, urban fines are ruled on by the municipal misdemeanour court; every municipality in the interior, from Valle Viejo to Belén, has its own, and route infractions are issued by the provincial traffic authority, with Gendarmería checks along the corridor to the San Francisco pass. A defence is filed with the authority that issued the fine, within the period set by the notice, and the discounted voluntary payment only exists before the court rules.

## What the API returns for this jurisdiction

In Catamarca the API currently queries the municipal misdemeanour court of San José, in the Fray Mamerto Esquiú department and returns each fine with the authority that issued it:

-   Authority and fine number exactly as each court publishes them.
-   Date, location when reported and description of the infraction.
-   Amount, status and payment conditions published by that court.
-   Downloadable payment slip when one exists.
-   Coverage per source and partial-result flag.

A result with no fines in one court does not rule out fines in another Catamarca municipality; the response reports which sources were queried.

## How to check a plate in Catamarca

The [ANSV national lookup](https://consultainfracciones.seguridadvial.gob.ar/) shows the fines that participating authorities load into the national system, and the [Catamarca Government portal](https://www.catamarca.gob.ar/) gathers local procedures and rules. Checking every plate by hand on both sites is feasible with ten vehicles and stops being so with a hundred: the API automates the lookup across the integrated authorities and returns one result per source.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in Catamarca

Mining and service contractor pickups are usually registered in another province and rotate along Route 38, Route 60 and the roads to the western projects; fines travel with the plate, not the driver, and reach the owning company weeks after the fact. Checking each plate before a rotation and at the close of each contract lets you assign the fine to the driver while the trip log exists.

The crossing through the San Francisco pass concentrates document checks, and a fine discovered only when renewing the technical inspection or selling the unit no longer allows a defence in time. A monthly check per plate, with the result stored next to the route sheet, keeps traceability towards the mining client and the court.

## Limits and considerations

-   Fixed-unit amounts are converted at the value current at the source; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
-   Route fines issued by the provincial authority are ruled on wherever it decides, not necessarily in the municipality where they occurred.
-   A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
-   The API neither pays fines nor handles defences; it delivers information to decide.
