# Traffic fines in Campeche: authorities, deadlines and API lookups

How infractions work in Campeche, from the state police on highway 180 to the municipalities of the capital and Carmen, and how an oil fleet queries them by plate with the API.

Jurisdiction

State of Campeche · Mexico

Campeche links the walled capital with Ciudad del Carmen, the base of the offshore oil services, along federal highway 180, which continues towards Tabasco and Yucatán; the south-east’s public works and coastal tourism add trucks, contractor pickups and rental cars to traffic that until recently was quiet. The state and the municipalities share infractions, and plate renewal requires having no debts.

## Context and authorities

Each entity applies its own traffic regulation and its early-payment discount calendar; amounts are set in UMA and overdue debts are collected with updates and surcharges. The link with the tenencia tax, plate renewal and verification means a forgotten infraction shows up right at the procedure. The [Campeche State Government portal](https://campeche.gob.mx/) gathers official information.

The state’s Secretaría de Protección y Seguridad Ciudadana issues infractions on state highways and in several cities, the Campeche and Carmen city councils issue theirs on their streets, and the Secretaría de Administración y Finanzas collects vehicle debts together with plate renewal. Clarifications are filed with the authority that recorded the infraction, within the period set by the notice.

## What the API returns for this entity

In Campeche the API queries Campeche’s state plate lookup for infractions and returns each infraction with the authority that recorded it:

- The authority that recorded the infraction and its folio, unnormalised.
- The date and reason, with the location if the source reports it.
- The amount and status current at the source, with the discounts it publishes.
- The payment reference when the authority offers one.
- Which sources answered and which did not, to tell a complete result from a partial one.

The response splits the result by source and the partial-result flag shows whether any failed to answer: read it per authority, not as a national total.

## How to check a plate in Campeche

Manual verification starts at the [Campeche State Government portal](https://campeche.gob.mx/) and is completed with the citizen lookup of the [REPUVE](https://www.gob.mx/sesnsp), which confirms plate, serial number and theft report. That round, repeated for every unit, is what the API replaces: one lookup per plate across the integrated sources, with the result per source so you know what was verified.

## What to watch if you run a fleet in Campeche

An oil-service fleet based in Ciudad del Carmen rotates pickups among contracts and platforms, and municipal and state infractions pile up on plates that change driver every week; looking up each plate at the close of each contract and each month, with the per-source result stored, assigns each infraction to the driver and avoids discovering them at plate renewal.

For a construction or logistics company working on the south-east’s public works, units registered in other states receive the infraction weeks later at the owner’s address; a plate lookup after each trip to Campeche covers clarifications in time.

## How to integrate

Each plate is sent in a POST, with the entities to include if you do not want to query all of them. The response accepts the job and the result is retrieved by status lookup or arrives by webhook once the sources finish answering. The [vehicle lookup quality](https://apinitro.com/en/articles/vehicle-data-quality/) guide explains how to handle partial results and the [API page](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-mexico/) details access.

JSONIllustrative example, not a contract.

```json
{
  "plate": "ABC123A",
  "jurisdictions": [
    "MX-CAM"
  ]
}
```

## Limits and considerations

- Infractions on federal highways belong to the federal authority, not the state or municipal ones; the response names the authority of each.
- UMA amounts are updated every year; the final amount is set by the authority at the time of payment.
- A source that does not answer is reported as such, never as an absence of infractions.
- The API neither pays fines nor handles clarifications; it delivers information to decide.
