Infractions are applied by DETRAN-AL in the registry, by Maceió’s SMTT and the municipal bodies in the cities, by the military police on state roads and by the Federal Highway Police on federal ones. ## Context and authorities Infractions are governed by the [Brazilian Traffic Code](https://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/leis/l9503compilado.htm): each has a fixed value, a seriousness and a number of points recorded on the licence of the identified driver, and they are notified in two stages, the citation and the penalty, with periods for the prior defence and the appeal. The state DETRAN, municipalities with municipalised traffic and the Federal Highway Police apply them; [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran) coordinates the national systems. DETRAN-AL keeps the plate and RENAVAM register, where each infraction is entered, and processes the prior defence and the appeals before the JARI; SMTT enforces Maceió with cameras and agents, and Arapiraca has its own municipal body. DER-AL enforces the state roads towards the northern coast and the Federal Highway Police BR-101 and BR-104; no overdue fine may remain pending when licensing the vehicle. ## What the API returns for this jurisdiction In Alagoas a plate, with the RENAVAM when the source requires it, is sent to the [Brazil fines API](https://apinitro.com/en/apis/traffic-fines-brazil/), which walks its integrated sources and returns each infraction with the body that recorded it: - The body that recorded the infraction and its number, unnormalised. - The date and reason, with the location if the source reports it. - The value and status current at the source. - Which sources answered and which did not, on every lookup. The response reports which sources were queried and which answered; for Alagoas, the official channel is the DETRAN portal described below, and a result with no infractions in the integrated sources does not rule out records there or at the Federal Highway Police. ## How to check a plate in Alagoas To check a plate by hand, the [DETRAN-AL portal](https://www.detran.al.gov.br/) shows the infractions and the licensing status with the plate and the RENAVAM, and the Carteira Digital de Trânsito app, coordinated by [SENATRAN](https://www.gov.br/transportes/pt-br/assuntos/transito/senatran), concentrates the notices of every body. With ten units that is enough; with a hundred, the API walks the integrated sources by plate and returns the result split by body. ## What to watch if you run a fleet in Alagoas A harvest fleet taking cane from the mills to the plants on BR-101 and the state roads piles up weight and camera infractions on units that change driver every trip; a plate lookup at the close of each month, stored per body, lets you name the driver before the citation period expires. For a rent-a-car in Maceió delivering cars for Maragogi and the northern coast, the plate lookup at the return of each rental charges the customer the DER or SMTT infraction that would otherwise show up at licensing. ## How to integrate Each vehicle is sent in a POST, with the jurisdictions to include if you do not want to query all of them. The response accepts the job and the result is retrieved by status lookup or arrives by webhook once the sources finish answering.
